Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are the advantages of the different types of pools over each other?

A. Fiberglass Pools are typically the most expensive of the three pool types, but generally the cheapest to maintain allowing for more enjoyment and less maintenance. They have a smooth and nonporous surface. The advantages to this type of surface include reduced chemical costs, no more scrapes cuts or bruises, it is both strong and flexible allowing it to flex with the soil conditions and it never needs to be resurfaced. It is also the fastest pool to install and is made in a factory in a highly controlled and supervised environment. The cons to fiberglass pools is you have to choose a prefabricated model which sometimes limits the ability to have one installed in your yard. However, Viking Pools has many models to choose from, so this typically does not present a problem for Aqua-Glass Pools as with other pool companies.

Concrete pools are the "middle of the line" pool in which they are typically less expensive than fiberglass pools. The advantages are that you can choose the shape and size that best suits your needs and your backyard. The cons to a concrete pool are that there may be an increase in chemical usage and they tupically need to be resurfaced every 7 to 10 years and they take significantly longer to construct than a fiberglass pool.

Vinyl Liner Pools are fast to install, and is smoother surface to swim in. Although they can be custom made, they are typically bound by "cookie" cutter" shapes and sizes. They are the cheapest pool to purchase, however are very susceptible to leaks due to the liner being easily torn by tree limbs, animals, flying debris during heavy storms. Liners typicall last 5-7 years, but are usually bleached out within the first three years.

Q. Does a fiberglass pool “pop out” of the ground?

A. NO! Not when under normal operating conditions. What we mean by that is the possibility exists for any type of pool to pop out of the ground if you have a high water table and you drain the water out of your pool without consulting a qualified swimming pool contractor.

Q. How long have you been in business?

A. We have been in business nearly ten years and have done thousands of swimming pools and we are continuing to grow.

Q. What Makes Viking Pools the Best?

A. Viking are built EXACTLY the same as the multi-million dollar Hatteras yachts. Our pools are made with 100% unblended vinyl ester resin and our fiberglass is hand laid. We bulk our pools up with fiberglass mats and roven woven with a ceramic core ensuring you are getting a high quality product. Also, our gel coat is sprayed between 24-26 mils which is the perfect balance of flexibility and strength.

Q. How long does it take to install a pool?

A. Typical install time for a fiberglass pools is about 3 weeks. The major construction will be over in about 7-14 working days. Concrete pools typically take around six to eight weeks to construct. Vinyl Liner also takes 2-3 weeks.

Q. What does installation involve?

A. First we have to pull the proper permits. Then a hole is excavated to accommodate the pool model that you have purchased. Then, the bottom of the hole is contoured with sand or fill dirt to ensure a perfect fit. If a fiberglass pool, the pool is lowered into position and leveled and, while the pool is being filled, the sand is water-compacted around the edge to lock it in place. All plumbing and electricity is connected, pump and filter installed, decking built and, when completed, you are ready to enjoy your beautiful pool.

If a concrete pool, after excavation, we frame the pool, hang the steel rebar and "shoot the shell" with shotcrete. At this time approximately three to four weeks will lapse before returning for plaster. During those three weeks we will come by install your tile, form and pour your deck, apply the Kool-Krete, then plaster your pool. We will then fill it up with water, get the chemical balance correct and you will then be able to enjoy your new swimming pool.

Q. How do you deliver the one-piece pools?

A. Typically, they are trucked in to your location and we use a crane to lift it from the truck and put it into place. Sometimes we float them in and tow it behind a boat or we sometimes use a helicopter.

Q. What kind of decking may I use around my pool?

A. Our standard is textured and color sealed concrete around our concrete and fiberglass pools. However, we can also do pavers, stamped, textured, and stained concrete, or natural stone such as flagstone or travertine. Just use your imagination! Vinyl Liner pools typicall come with standard concrete.

Q. How durable is a fiberglass pool?

A. The pool’s seamless construction withstands extreme environmental changes and can flex up to twelve full inches without damage. Our pools are engineered to be up to seventeen times stronger per inch than concrete pools. This remarkable flexing feature makes the fiberglass pool the most resilient to any weather and/or soil condition. No other pool comes close and that is why you will get a lifetime manufacturer's warranty when you choose Aqua-Glass pools to install your pool. You won't get that with any other pool company.

Q. How difficult is it to maintain a pool?

A. A fiberglass pool is the easiest to maintain allowing you to spend more time enjoying your pool. The gel coat finish is smooth, hard and non-porous making it resistant to algae. This feature reduces chemical usage and maintenance costs. Unlike other types of pools, there is never a need to drain a one-piece fiberglass pool. And remember, unlike other pool types fiberglass pools do not ever need to be drained for replastering/remarciting, acid washing, or vinyl liner . On average it takes about 1 hour per week for a fiberglass and vinyl liner pool and two to three a week to maintain your concrete pool.
